About Us

AF&R originated as a small sole proprietorship in the 1960's. Since then, we have helped companies of all sizes in both northern New York State and Canada achieve a wide range of accounting, tax and financial planning objectives.

Our certified public accountants approach each engagement in a dynamic manner, addressing issues before they become problems. Our size allows us to bring a specialized team to each project and to draw on the interdisciplinary skills of the entire firm. We also look at clients as individual cases because we know there are no one-size-fits-all answers for any business, and we view each client as a unique case in need of a customized solution.

Our objective is to assist our clients in achieving their goals. To do this, we are committed first and foremost to understanding their businesses. We bring an objective perspective, we work to establish clear, relevant priorities, and we constantly seek to create value in our professional relationships.

PATRICK K. RUSSELL
CPA, Limited Securities Rep. License

Pat is a Shareholder of Abbott Frenyea & Russell and serves as President. Prior to the formation of AF&R, he served as the Vice-President of taxation at a regional accounting firm, in management positions with international CPA firms in New York City, and as a manager of federal taxes for PepsiCo, Inc. at its world headquarters in Purchase, New York.

Pat is a Certified Public Accountant, a member of the Tax Division of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and a member the New York State Society of CPA's.

LUCY W. CARROLL
CPA

Lucy is a Shareholder of Abbott Frenyea & Russell and a Vice-President of the firm.

She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1970 from a small liberal arts college in Virginia and continued her studies in New York receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1987 from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh. Following graduation, she joined the firm and in 1990 she became licensed to practice as a certified public accountant in New York State.

Her responsibilities include overseeing the tax segment of the firm’s tax practice for a variety of clients including manufacturing corporations, real estate partnerships, professional corporations, limited liability companies, individuals, estates and trusts.

She has more than 27 years of experience in accounting and tax services and is now focused almost exclusively on taxation including estate and trust taxation. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Active in the local community, she has served on the boards of numerous not-for-profit organizations including Planned Parenthood of the North Country, New York, Literacy Volunteers of Clinton County, New York, the Plattsburgh Memorial Chapel, Inc., and Behavioral Health Sciences North.

HOLLY A. MORROW
CPA

Holly is a Shareholder of Abbott Frenyea & Russell and serves as a Vice-President and Treasurer.

She joined the firm in 1990 upon graduation from State University of New York College at Plattsburgh with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. In 1992 she became licensed to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in New York State. Her responsibilities include overseeing the auditing and accounting segment of the firm’s practice including planning, executing, supervising and reporting on financial and compliance audits for corporations, pension and welfare plans, not-for-profit and governmental agencies. These responsibilities include the preparation of full disclosure financial statements; management reports; budget, contract and grant compliance analysis; and internal accounting control system design analysis. 

Her responsibilities also include supervising audit staff members and performing review of work papers, financial statements and reports prepared by staff members for compliance with professional pronouncements, regulatory requirements and stringent firm standards. She completes a minimum of 40 hours of continuing professional education annually with an emphasis on topics directly related to current accounting and auditing issues, governmental, not-for-profit and employee benefit plan issues, taxation and professional ethics.

Holly is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Adirondack Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. She currently serves as Treasurer of the Kent Delord House Museum and as a member of the Board of Directors of Pine Harbour Assisted Living.

JAMES L. HOLMES
CPA

Jim is a Shareholder of Abbott Frenyea & Russell and serves as a Vice-President and Secretary of the company.

He is a graduate of Concordia University in Montreal with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Accounting. He was the General Manager of Hemmingford Golf Club in Hemmingford, Quebec following graduation. 

He joined Abbott, Frenyea & Russell in 2002 and four years later he became licensed to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in New York State. 

He is fluent in French and specializes in assisting Canadian companies looking to do business in the United States and U.S. citizens living abroad.

Jim is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and New York State Society of CPA’s. He is very active in the community and has served on a number of boards of not-for-profit organizations and is currently Treasurer of Mountain Lake PBS and Treasurer of the Plattsburgh YMCA.

THEODORE E. SILL
CPA

Ted is a Supervisor with Abbott Frenyea & Russell.

He joined the firm in 2011 upon graduation from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Business and in 2013 he became licensed to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in New York State.

Ted provides auditing and tax services to the firm's clients. Ted is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Adirondack Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of The Foundation of CVPH.

Jim Abbott
JAMES C. ABBOTT
CPA, CVA (1955-2010)

Jim was one of the founding members of Abbott, Frenyea & Russell. He passed away in 2010.

ROBERT J. FRENYEA
CPA

Bob was one of the founding members of Abbott, Frenyea & Russell. He retired in December 2013.
